The 16 Personality Types in Gifted Children & Adults

A J-Judging preference on the MBTI® (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®) gets things done for their gifted kids!

A strong finding for my 18 year longitudinal study, the beginnings of which I first wrote and shared in 2002, is that the J-Judging preference on the MBTI® (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®) shows a disproportionate representation among the parents, especially the mothers, who take their gifted children to specialists for evaluation and advice.[i]

The J-Judging preference in the overall American population is about 50%. In this study, J-Judging parents are about 67% of the professional help-initiating parents. We also see that P-Perceiver children are the ones most frequently brought to specialists for help, about 69% in this study.

The MBTI® personality type preference of parents appears to influence — or perhaps more accurately, relate to — their viewpoint regarding success and what they think their parenting role should look like. Parents with certain personality type preferences are more likely to be involved in all aspects of their children’s educations than other personality types are.
