Keith described his mother as permissive and his father as authoritarian. His mother’s personality type preference is INFJ (Protector), and his father’s is ISTJ (Duty Fulfiller), which is the same as Keith as an adult. As a child, however, Keith’s type preference was EUFP (Performer/Inspirer). Keith’s mother gave her thoughts on the parenting question by writing this:

I like to believe that his father and I were both authoritative but perhaps more on the permissive side as he [the father] was often disengaged, and I would try and make up for it by being overprotective. I recall my own father chastising me for allowing Keith to jump on the couch when he was a toddler. I also recall Keith’s father allowing the kids to be outside in the snow for hours while I was away at work when we lived in the States.

Sometimes people get confused about how a J-Judger, like Keith’s mother, can be described as permissive. It…
