Justin, who preferred ENFP (Inspirer) as a child, has a mother whose MBTI® preference is INFJ (Protector) and a father with an ESFP (Performer) preference. As he grew up, Justin gravitated to ENFJ (Giver, 1.6%, rare for males) by his early twenties. He described both parents as authoritative-permissive. He has a much younger sister and is both fond and admiring of her. It is evident Justin’s mother was focused on and strongly attuned to her son’s environmental academic and social needs. In answer to survey questions, she wrote copiously about her viewpoints, her actions, and her feelings about what he needed, what the schools should do, and how she wished they could afford more, and wished her husband would help her more with all she had to do. She was not often employed outside the home. As an INFJ (Protector), she was lovingly attentive to the needs of others — spoken or unspoken. Here is an example of her efforts, in her own words:
