All of this is so interesting. There’s no question but that my poor destructive mother had BPD. Your article opened my eyes to my third ex husband’s likely having it, too. I am shocked that I didn’t see what was wrong. What got me to start making all the connections was his daughter was a cutter and clearly went through hell with his temper and neglect of her compared to his son. The sons attention was pure narcissistic self-validation for my ex. Like my mother, they have many sides, some very wise and good. As mom used to say, “I’m like the little girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead. When she is good she’s very very good, and when she was bad, she was horrid.” She also recognised something was wrong with her. It’s all very sad. It took a lifetime for the three of her children more or less recover. I am shortly publishing a longitudinal study follow up of 65 people, verifiably very gifted (study the outliers to make a point) and how they were raised, educated, and treated … and what you write about here could be interwoven with the complexities of how these people have turned out so far. Thank you for your work and wisdom.
